Grabber Arm Crane
The project is designed to teach the students about how the robotic machine can be implemented to perform repetitive tasks.
The Grabber Crane uses 3D printed parts and assemblies. The color shown may not be the same as supplied in the kit. The pieces are Hot glue gun together to form the crane.
Four servos are used for the crane. One is used to rotate the crane, one used to raise and lower the arm, one used to rotate the Grabber mechanism in elevation and last servo used to the Grabber mechanism.
The project also includes a Bluetooth module HC-05 to interface the Arduino Uno.
The student can program it to do repetitive tasks or develop an APP for the Android smartphone. The Android phone is not included with the project.
This kit will require soldering to interconnect some of the wires.
A breadboard and jumper wires are included in the kit. This kit utilizes an interface that will allow an Arduino or Raspberry Pi microcontroller for this project. The kit will include an Arduino.
The student will have to know there is a weight limit of the crane since the servo motor has a limited amount of torque. The kit will let the students discover the meaning of torque.
Engineering drawings and electrical schematic diagram are included in the kit.
Programming
The student can program the Crane using Mblock, Python and C++ Programming. Also an App for the Android smartphone can be developed using the MIT App Inventor program. The App is downloaded to an Android smartphone. The Android smartphone is not included. This is a free online program An example code for the Arduino will be included in the kit. The student can program the Crane to pick up an object and release the object at a different location. The kids’ imagination is endless on the different uses of the crane.
